Tuesday's one thing: Chicago care package
Item 1. Feed some helpers
At the suggestion of friends in Rogers Park* in Chicago, a few of us just shipped a bunch of snacks to be distributed to rapid responders / anti-ICE patrollers. Want to be a snack supplier? I'd love to send another shipment and make it larger this time. ➡️ To chip in, please use the Venmo link below or Zelle juliacsmith at gmail, and note "Costco."
*The neighborhood Kelly Hayes wrote about this week, the one Maya Schenwar described here on FB, the one Prerna Abbi-Scanlon writes from on IG. The place where very special, very regular people made this protest happen Sunday and will host another of these trainings tomorrow. Also a home away from home for me during my 12 years in the city.
Item 2. "He was putting his laundry clothes inside his truck when the car pulled up and took him."
If you would like to support one of the families most harmed ➡️ A close friend (who co-founded Protect RP during Trump 1.0 and who is receiving the snack shipment) shared this GoFundMe link for the family of Macario Soto.
Item 3. Further reading
Re: the quilt pictured above:
- South Shore raid triggers past traumas and sparks new conversations about the divisions between Black and Latino communities (longer read from The Triibe)
- "They were separated into two different groups...a Black group and a Brown group" (shorter video recap via Stacy Davis Gates and the Chicago Teachers Union on IG last week)
Also: When the soldiers come to your town, this is what I'll say about you (Garrett Bucks on Substack).
