Tuesday's five ICE-melting, truth-telling things

Close-up of a handmade poster at a protest in Baltimore. The sign reads THE WRONG ICE IS MELTING and has a sketch of polar icecaps with a penguin holding its own sign.

Items 1-2. Melt ICE

If you have a little money ➡️ I haven't met this person yet, but he is my neighbor, and now he has been detained by ICE. Resistencia en Acción NJ set up this GoFundMe for his legal fees and his family during this terrible time. They're 78% of the way to their goal as I type this.

If you have a little time ➡️ After last night's #DisappearedInAmerica mass call, the co-sponsoring groups shared this Talk to Your Sheriff toolkit. If you gather with neighbors for a meeting with your local sheriff between now and August 11, the organizers of this campaign will help you plan and troubleshoot during "office hours" in July. You'll also be invited to a national debrief call. Reply to this email if you'd like me to fwd you the recording or slides from last night, or just get going!

Item 3. Keep pushing

...against the bill. You know the one.

➡️ Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson breaks down how and why to make the phone call to your House Rep. If you're a 5Calls user, you can also use their latest script – and data nerds can view a spreadsheet that shows how many calls each rep has received from 5Calls users + which way they voted on the Bill back in May.

Items 4-5. Tell the truth

Do you have the bandwidth to volunteer as a researcher, writer, or editor? ➡️ Unbreaking is looking for folks to document threats, counterattacks, and community responses.

Are you 1) an immigrant and 2) the parent of a school-aged child? ➡️ This online writing opportunity from La Cuenta and Stanford University looks amazing:

We will write, record, draw, and produce stories together about our families and cultural experiences.
We are looking for immigrant parents (from any background) of school-aged children who will participate in monthly online meetings alongside their children. Together, you will share stories you create together with other families.
Participation in this project is confidential, and you and your child will each receive $1000 for participation in this year-long project.

Thanks for reading. Keep going.
