Today's two things
At home, in the streets, between the sheets, etc.
Item 1
Right to Be (the org once known as Hollaback!) offers FREE one-hour virtual trainings to help people become effective bystanders, aka upstanders* — building a world that’s “free of harassment and filled with humanity.” I have personally gained helpful skills and insight from these trainings in the past.
➡️Check their calendar of upcoming events, including one on how to respond to police sponsored violence and anti-Black racist harrassment; two specifically geared toward youth; and some for the workplace context vs. public spaces. For those of us who have done these trainings before, here’s a 2.0 training on practical tools for being powerful in the face of harassment.
*For those with young children, Sesame Street has “upstander” resources, too.
Item 2
“Children, women, and gender-expansive people have to fight public fights, but they also have to resist the systems, people, and relationships that maintain inequality in intimate life.” ➡️ Read Soraya Chemaly’s ideas for growing that resistance in this piece.
