Monday's one thing

As Prerna Abbi-Scanlon illustrated yesterday, we are in the "First they came" poem right now.

ICE has "disappeared" a Columbia student, green card holder, and husband to someone eight months pregnant, for exercising his right to free speech. If you're not caught up, here's a Democracy Now! story and some background from Bend the Arc: Jewish Action, plus a piece from The Intercept about the Columbia WhatsApp group that has been targeting pro-Palestine students.

Item 1

If you have U.S. Senators ➡️Use this extremely short script from Rachel Hands to leave a message with their staffers today. (Phone numbers here.)

Rachel Hands post with a script that reads "I'm calling with deep concern and outrage over the arrest of the Columbia grad student Mahmoud Khalil. I ask that the Senator fight for Khalil's immediate release, and I ask for communications to help constituents understand why sending ICE after student protesters presents a critical threat to our rights to free speech and dissent."
Rachel Hands is on Bluesky.

If you or your friends are in NYC and can hustle over this afternoon ➡️ there's an emergency protest at Javits Federal Building at 4pm.

Keep equipping yourself and your neighbors ➡️ Marco Rubio has no authority to "revoke" green cards, but clearly that won't stop him (or the vigilantes who feel empowered by the billionaire bros).

We need to throw sand in these gears wherever and whenever we can.
