Monday's things
Item 1: What do we mean by "mutual aid"?
Here is a chart from Dean Spade (and he expands on the concept a lot in this book), and here is a quick explainer from Moms Clean Air Force. It might mean starting or joining an ICE Watch program in your community, or making stickers or flyers with local ICE Watch hotline numbers and putting them around the neighborhood. It definitely does not just mean GoFundMe links, though for alliteration's sake I often put fundraising asks in the "mutual aid" section of Monday newsletters.
That said, here are two places to contribute $ if you are able:
- Community Self Defense Coalition in Los Angeles, born to defend and protect our workers from the threat of ICE/DHS and other predatory agencies destroying our working class communities. They're 80% to their $3k goal!
- Thurman Perry Foundation needs help supporting women and girls impacted by incarceration. Via Gabrielle A. Perry, MPH, on Bluesky: When we reach the halfway point of $25,000, we can start taking applications again to restart our Mother’s Day 365 program, which provides clothes, baby formula, and rent/mortgage relief for mothers NATIONWIDE.
