It's a sign! Wednesday's three things
Here's this week's art fix, since I was out canvassing yesterday and didn't make it.
Item 1. Suggestion
Are you making a protest sign this week? Monica Trinidad has advice (starting around the 14:15 mark in How to Make Art for Social Change on YouTube):
Create a focal point. It's your duty as the artist to tell the viewer what the most important part of your art is. You can do that through literally making your message the biggest part of the poster or through certain colors, contrast, scale. My partner is a graphic designer and they're always teaching me that design is actually about making info accessible, and communicating a message. [...] If you're making art for a community protest or a rally or an action, you want your poster to be seen across the street. You want that message to be crystal clear in that poster. No more than five, six words max, depending on how big.
Item 2. Feels like art to me!

Item 3. Artists using their platforms
- Doechii (via Billboard)
- Ilana Glazer + Mary Beth Barone (IG)
- Resistance Revival Chorus (IG; follow + support the groups in the caption!)
- Artist Anisa Makhoul is sending 100% of profits from this print to help evacuate a family from Gaza. You could also just contribute directly. (GoFundMe)
- Earlier this week, playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins and other Tony Award winners urged audiences to support local and regional theater companies. It brought to mind this Vu Le post from last month: Let's support the arts like democracy depends on it–because it does! (links = YouTube, then NonprofitAF)
