Friday's 3 things (including a tasty weekend wish)
Item 1. Following up on the egg replacements post
In light of the tariffs...
- Budget Bytes has recipes designed for small budgets.
- I just remembered this egg-free chocolate cookie I made in a lot in early 2020.
- And there are plenty of breathless articles like What Will Tariffs Make More Expensive? (Rolling Stone) that might have you making panic purchases.
But also ➡️Take a beat, maybe.
- Full disclosure, I have not taken the 10 minutes for this yet, but yesterday Claudia Horowitz's free meditation was titled Tasting Joy.
- Active boycotts, and one person's experience breaking up with Amazon.
- There is a time and place for tips from anonymous folks on Reddit (here's a "vegan on a budget" thread with some links for substitutions and recipes that I plan to explore). But remember any lessons you may have from early COVID panic-purchases or other life experience. When in doubt: Neighbors. Potlucks. Mutual aid.
Item 2. More follow-ups
- Libraries (which I've touched on often so I'm not bothering to link back) + "Things you can make or order to distribute in your community" (ditto) = this postcard you can order for cheap.
- Protesting this weekend? ➡️ See if there's a "know before you go" guide, like this one for Providence. Find a buddy. Be mindful about your phone and social media. And find lots of poster/sign ideas in this Celeste Ng thread on Bluesky.
Item 3. Weekend wish
May we all relate to something as lovingly as Twanna Hines relates to this cake recipe.
