Friday's late night things

Item 1: Resistance is everywhere.

If you hear anyone ask, "Why aren't people protesting?" ➡️ Show them this post from Waging Nonviolence.

Item 2: "DC is worth it."

Remember the ask on Wednesday? News tonight via Free DC:

The Senate just passed by unanimous voice vote a bill to restore DC's power over our budget. The move was "a stunning turnaround" after the House's version of the bill.

This would not have been possible without the incredibly powerful organizing we did this week. Over a thousand people joined us at the House and the Senate this week, including DCPS teachers, transit workers, students, advocates, and so many more. To everyone who joined us this week, thank you. You made this happen.

Maybe it's both/and. But if you're in DC and it's accessible for you, maybe this is where you want to be on Sunday night?

More follow-ups

  • Re: Mahmoud Kahlil and ICE detention ➡️ Thoughts + more articles from Clara at Hmm That's Interesting; also be aware that Yale suspended legal scholar Helyeh Doutaghi after an AI-generated smear campaign 🤯 (Taylor Lorenz at User Mag).
  • Re: Yesterday's diary/sketchbook prompt ➡️ Nearly five years ago, Julia Rittenberg wrote about the importance of pandemic diaries on Bookriot: "First-person accounts will be necessary to tell the real story of the uprising and the pandemic years down the line, especially to show our future generations that we did not take this experience lying down."

Take care of yourself and your people this weekend.

Love,

Julia
